No matter how many plants we have in our house, we still have the urge to buy one more whenever we are passing by a nursery. We all get very excited to welcome the new member into our family, but with this excitement we often make some silly mistakes. Because buying a healthy plant requires some patience. There are a lot of things you should consider before buying a plant from a nursery.
- Examine the plants: When you are choosing a plant, or have chosen a particular plant, pick some other plants of the same species and compare all of them. It will help to choose the best and healthy plant out of them.
- Analyze the leaves: Examine the leaves is the best idea to find out the healthy plant. The leaves of a healthy plant would look fresh, not yellow or witted. However, 2 or 3 witted or yellow leaves is completely okay, if the rest of the plant is fresh.
- Look for bugs: You should thoroughly examine the leaves over and underneath for pests or bugs. A healthy plant should look clean. Avoid the plant which has black spots or burning spots in the leaves. Also, check the soil as well to find out if there is any fungus or not.
- Examine the soil: Most of us do not examine the soil before buying a plant, but examining the soil is extremely essential. Because the roots may have tiny white bugs which are next to impossible to find out. To have a healthy plant, you need to check the plant’s root. To check the roots, loose the outer soil of the plant and gently lift the plant out of the plot. You can also ask the nursery worker to help you.
So, those are the 4 factors that you should keep in mind before purchasing a plant in the nursery. Also, it is advisable to buy plants from known and reliable nurseries.
